51969. AUSTRALIAN SHEET MUSIC. EMMET, J.K.
- Lullaby: As sung in "Fritz". J.K. Emmet's only Authorized & Authentic edition of Songs. Respectfully Dedicated to Wm Saurin Lyster Esq. of the Opera House.. Melbourne. No publisher. Printed by E. Whitehead & Co. Engravers & Lithographers. 67, Collins Street East. c.1876-1888. 3pp. + wraps. Appears to have been carefully removed from an album, several tears to edges, edges of first two pages neatly tape-reinforced, prev. owner's inked signature to top RH corner of cover. A very busy front cover leaving no room for doubt as to the composer's and the performer's identity. Central inset reads "With Compliments of J.K.Emmet 'Go head mit de moosic'", above which in large decorated letters is Emmet's name. His flamboyant signature (stamp) also appears twice. Joseph K. Emmet was a specialist in German dialect comedy and was an intensely desirable property to Australian managements, even though he only had one character, that of the comic German, and only one play "Fritz, Our Cousin German". He opened at the Opera House on March 18 1876, following a 200-night season at the Adelphi in London. He was also a fine musician, singing with great effect to his own guitar and banjo acccompaniments. (Golden Age of Australian Opera - Harold LOVE). .
